This is Lily, she has a rare disease called Fanconi Anemia which led to her being born with no thumbs but you would never know it. She has beaten leukemia, has had a bone marrow transplant, she has had her leg extended and they still are not growing right so she will have to go through the process again. She has to see an endocrinologist every six months for shots, which she says is the worst part of her treatment right now. I am blessed to have been able to photograph her every year since this battle has started and I am hoping to continue for years to come. Her mom is so strong but so kind. Life hasn’t been easy for them, but you would never know it if you met lily. She is full of joy and curiosity. We started in the Children’s Hospital where her treatments have been and moved all over Grand Rapids Michigan. Next year we plan to shoot in Cincinnati, where the majority of her life has been spent in hospitals.
